Monad's Launches Amidst Scrutiny Over Its Token Distribution Strategy
The new Monad layer-1 network has officially activated, introducing its native token through an airdrop and outlining its ambitious goals for decentralized finance and institutional use.

Furedata - The Monad layer-1 blockchain officially initiated its mainnet operations this past Monday. This significant debut was strategically paired with the inaugural distribution of its native MON token through a community-focused airdrop event.
An immense total of 100 billion MON tokens has been minted to comprise the entire supply. Of this vast amount, an initial 10.8 percent is currently unlocked and has been made available for circulation.
The project's team has positioned Monad as a high-throughput network built for performance. It is specifically engineered to support demanding industry sectors like DeFi, payments, stablecoins, and high-frequency institutional finance applications.
Furthermore, the network was purposefully built to maintain Ethereum Virtual Machine compatibility. This design choice is intended to help advance the scalability and next growth phase of Ethereum’s widely used computational environment.
Official project documentation provides a breakdown of the circulating supply's origins. A recent public sale on Coinbase's platform at $0.025 per token released 7.5%, with the airdrop unlocking the remaining 3.3%.
The allocation for the non-circulating majority is also detailed. It reserves 38.5% for ecosystem development, 19.7% for investors, 4% for the Labs Treasury, and a significant 27% for the Monad team.
This particular token distribution model has sparked debate. Some observers on the social platform X have argued that the team’s 27% share is unusually large when compared against prevailing industry standards.
In a press release, co-founder Keone Hon highlighted the launch as a major step. He stated developers no longer need to choose between the critical elements of speed, security, and usability when building.
Hon further explained Monad’s commitment to supporting existing developer tools. He expressed excitement about empowering new applications and accelerating both mainstream and institutional adoption of the technology.
